At Imbolc, we celebrate the “abundance of what lies beneath the surface”. The light is returning, Goddess Brigid ushers in Spring with her crown of candles lighting the way.

Although there is still snow on the ground we have a deep understanding that the wheel will turn again. This cross-quarter day invites us to look beneath the surface of our daily lives. In finding that seed within where we see our own growth and power, we can move that awareness to a more conscious level and act from that place. The Celtic Goddess Brigids’ story says she was born with a flame in her head and drank the milk of a mystical cow from the spirit world. Thus, you’ll often see her portrayed as a maiden with long flowing red hair, dressed in red and white, with a crown of candles on her head. Brigid is often evoked in fertility blessings and oversees poetry, crafts and prophecy. Imbolc also means “in the belly.”
We are deep in the belly of winter, yet there are lambs in the bellies of the sheep. Such is the turn of the wheel.
